Pigeon Rock

Executive Summary

• Pigeon rock is a small rock adjacent to Flat Island.

• It is virtually inaccessible, without scaling the sheer cliff face with mountaineering gear.

• As a result little detail is known of its existing flora and fauna, although it is known to be a nesting place for several species of seabirds and is one of only two northern islets that is home to the lesser night gecko Nactus coindemirensis.

• Given is inaccessibility no intervention management is required or recommended.

Ideally a management plan of Pigeon Rock should be included in the over-all development of the management plan to Flat Island and Gabriel given its close proximity.

Note the consultants were unable to visit the islet location due to cyclone warnings at the time of the planned trip to Flat Island.
