National Oil Spill Contingency Plan (NOSCP)

Purpose of Plan

The purpose of the NOSCP is to provide the organisational structure and procedures for preparedness and response to oil spills.

It covers the roles, duties and responsibilities of relevant parties as listed in Part 2.
It urges all the parties concerned to continually discuss, develop and agree on response strategies to a range of spill scenarios and to integrate the individual existing contingency plans.

Scope of Plan

The NOSCP applies to all oil spills, whether inland, on the adjoining shorelines or within the maritime zone as defined in Section 49 of the EPA 2002.

The NOSCP includes:

• The oil spill response strategy
• The action and operations plan
• A data directory
• The Coastal Sensitivity Atlas of Mauritius for oil spill response.
The atlas consists of 1:25,000 scale maps with designations of priority areas for response and specifications of protection and clean ups strategies at important locations.
