Prevention of Noise (Rural Districts) Regulations 1942
GN No. 13 of 1942
Regulations made by the Commissioner of Police under Article
3 of the Prevention of Noise Act 1938.
1. The following regulations shall apply to all rural districts
including declared villages outside the limits of the town
of Port Louis and the townships of Beau Bassin and Rose Hill,
Curepipe and Quatre Bornes.
2. It shall not be lawful for any person-
(1) to play any instrument or conduct any show or performance in any street,
thoroughfare or public place which may cause noise in, or any obstruction to
the general traffic proceeding along, such street, thoroughfare or public place:
Provided that this subsection shall not apply in the case of any Military or
Police Route March, religious procession, meeting or ceremony as well as any
exhibition, performance or show, for the holding or giving of which the written
permission of the Commissioner of Police shall have been previously obtained.
(2) to shriek, shout, sing or make any unnecessary noise whether by day or by
night in any street, thoroughfare or public place.
3. It shall not be lawful for any person, in such a manner as may cause any inconvenience
to any member of the public-
(1) to let off, or cause to explode any cracker or fireworks in any street, thoroughfare
or public place.
(2) to shriek, shout, or make use of any gramophone, loud speaker, electrical
or mechanical device for producing or reproducing sound, or of any musical or
other instrument on any promises;
(3) to keep on any premises any barking dog;
(4) to keep the engine of any motor vehicle running for an unreasonable period
of time whilst such vehicle is standing still;
(5) to make use of the horn of any motor vehicle in an unreasonable manner.
4. The Regulations published under Government Notice No. 155 of 1939 are hereby
repeated.
