Public Health (Disposal of Refuse) Regulations 1948

Abstract


Regulations made by the Director of the Health Department under Article 193 of the Public Health Act, 1925

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Public Health (Disposal of Refuse) Regulations, 1948. They shall apply to such areas, not included within the limits of the Towns of Port Louis, of Curepipe, of Quatre Bornes and of Beau Bassin and Rose Hill, as may be specified by the Director by notice published in the Gazette.

2. (1) Every occupier of premises shall deposit or cause to be deposited all sweepings and house refuse from such premises in receptacles which he shall provide for the purpose.

(2) The receptacles, for the purpose of being emptied, shall, on such days and hours as may from time to time be fixed by the Sanitary Authority, be placed on the premises at a spot which shall be readily accessible to the scavenging cart or lorry and which shall in no case be farther than fifteen feet from the edge of the street.

3. Every occupier of premises shall cause all garden refuse to be deposited on the premises at a spot which shall be readily accessible to the scavenging cart or lorry and which shall in no case be farther than fifteen feet front the edge of the street.

4. All refuse produced by the exercise on the premises of any trade or by any manufacture there carried on shall he removed by the party exercising that trade or carrying on that manufacture, at his own cost and under such arrangements as shall be approved by the Sanitary Authority.

5. Every occupier of premises shall-

(a) keep clean the space extending from the wall or other enclosure of the premises down to the gutter or ditch exclusively
(b) dispose of the cuttings of all hedges, trees or shrubs trimmed on such premises as if they were garden refuse.

6. Any person contravening or otherwise failing to comply with the provisions of these Regulations shall be guilty of an offence and shall, on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding 100 rupees.
