Irrigation Authority Act

Abstract
This Act
deals with the study and development of irrigation and
one of its purposes is to make proposals
to the Central Water Authority and implement and manage
irrigation projects in every irrigation area amongst others
(section
4). Under section 5 of the Act, the Minister has wide powers
to give general directions to the Board in the public interest
and the Board shall comply with those directions. The Board
under section 6 is properly constituted and members are appointed
by the Minister.
There shall also be a General Manager also known as the
Chief Executive Officer under section 8 and the latter may
delegate such duties with the direction of the Board (section
9).
Under section 12, a general fund shall be established in
relation to the receipt and payment of money. Section 14
empowers the minister to declare areas to be irrigation areas
and under sections 15 and 16, the Authority shall deal with
the preparation of irrigation projects and the implementation
of projects respectively.
The Act also makes provisions for those who wish to object
on the implementation of irrigation projects as per section
17.
Section 18 deals with the compulsory acquisition of land
by the Government in accordance with the Land Acquisition
Act.
