National Coast Guard Act 1988

Abstract

There shall be established under section 3 a specialized body known as the National Coast Guard and under section 4 a Commandant.

Section 5 explains the structure of the National Coast Guard and section 6 their duties. This section also concerned the environmental law which the National Coast Guard shall be responsible.

Under section 10, the National Coast Guard have the authority to board a vessel in the execution of their duties.

Section 12 entitles them wide powers including the power of arrest, prevent any activity likely to constitute a threat to the maritime zones and prevent any form of maritime pollution.
